Week 19 (27th Feb)

A terrific result from our Cake Stall held during Saturday's competition with approximately $300 of funds raised on the day.  A big thank you to all Bolters families who supplied some delicious cakes, slices, and sugary fare for us to sell.  Also a special thankyou to the ladies who manned the stall.

The end of the current track and field season is fast approaching with only 4 weeks of competition remaining.  This also means our End of Season Presentation is looming and will this year take place on Sunday 28th March, 1pm, at Boronia Heights Primary School.  As well as athlete trophies and awards given out on the day, this day also incorporates our Annual General Meeting.  Attendance is important as we vote and put in place new members to join the Bolters Committee for the next summer track and field season of 2010/11.  We'll also be hiring a jumping castle for the kids!  Further details can be found on the flyer attached HERE.  A reminder shall also be posted on the website closer to this date.

Week 15 (30th Jan)

It was back to 'normal' competition last Saturday after a highly successful Open Twilight the weekend prior.  A few athletes missing this week due to the State Multi Event being held in Bendigo, but the competition was still 'hot'.  Many PB medals have been awarded to Bolters athletes - please check back in a few days via the 'PB Awards' button as recipients of these awards shall be updated on the list.  Hope to see you all this Saturday for Program 'B' (early start for U13-U15 & Youth Athletes wishing to contest the long hurdles).

Week 14

A little busier this week with more athletes obviously back fresh from holiday mode but we still managed to squeeze in an extra event or two for some age groups.  Next Saturday is the highly anticipated Knox Open Twilight - one of the largest attended open days on the athletic calendar.  Don't forget if your child is competing at the Open Day you are expected to turn up for your allocated duty (duty roster and further details available on the Knox website).  Good luck to all Boronia Bolters competing next Saturday.

Week 13 - 'Girls vs Boys' Competition

With many athletes still obviously enjoying holidays away from the track, it was a very quiet morning of competition indeed.  The small attendance didn't stop the girls and boys from showing some friendly rivalry between them.  The program was completed by around 11am just in time before the scorching weather was upon us.  Next Saturday's competition is back to 'point scoring' with Program 'C' being on the agenda (early start of 8am for U11 & 12's wishing to compete in the long hurdles).

'Girls vs Boys' competition - this Saturday

A reminder that the 'Girls vs Boys' competition will be held this Saturday at the track.  The challenge will consist of a sprint, middle distance, a throw and a jump.  As many are away on holidays it is intended that the program should finish quite early.  And for this reason, we ask that as many Bolters parents as possible assist with duty please.  See you there.

Knox Multi Event & Ray Abley Gift

The Knox Multi Event day was held on Saturday which consisted of all athletes competing in 5 set events (4 events for the younger ones) and accumulating points for each result.  Official results will be available on the Knox website as soon as they are collated (I shall post a link on our website too).  The featured event of the day included the Ray Abley Gift which was run mid morning during a break in the competition.  The competitors in the Ray Abley Gift included one runner from each age group selected from the Relay squads.  Each runner is given a handicapped time according to their average sprint time and placed on the track accordingly, with the hope that all runners come across the finishing line as close together as possible.  We certainly weren't disappointed as both races produced close finishes - especially the boys race.

We also held our 'annual Christmas BBQ break up' at the reserve behind the Bolters area.  All the Bolters kids and their families were treated to a sausage sizzle - thanks to the wonderful chefs behind the bbq!

Hope you all have a safe Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you all back at the track on Saturday 9th January 2010.  This day will be a 'Boys Vs Girls' competition, so it should end up a really fun day - but we all know who'll win that don't we girls!

Week 11 - Twilight

A great turnout last night for our final Twilight for this half of the season - so much so that the car park was quite full by 6 o'clock.  Thanks to the parent helpers who performed duty and those who helped prepare the famous 'Bolters Burgers'.  With only 2 weeks until Christmas, our athletes are racing along with many PB's being achieved again during the twilight comp.  Next Saturday will be the Ray Abley Multi Event competition for all Knox athletes commencing at 8:30am.  Each athlete will compete in 5 set events (hurdles, 100m, 800m, discus and long jump) and each result will accumulate points - a great opportunity for those Bolters athletes who will be competing at State Multi in the New Year.  The 'Ray Abley Gift' will also be run during a break in the program.   Good luck to all Bolters athletes competing at State Relay Championships tomorrow (Sunday).

Knox Lap-a-Thon

The Knox Annual Lap-a-Thon and Handicap Relay was held last Sunday 29th November and completed just in time before the heavens opened up.  Some Bolters parents and athletes were enthusiastic enough to run a few laps in order to raise some money to be put towards the Centre's new photo finish camera.  Even the Knox Centre Uniform Manager, our own Mr David Murrihy, braved the cooler conditions for a gutsy and wonderfully run 400metres in this chosen outfit - the less fabric obviously made for aerodynamic speed!

  Week 9

Threatening skies yet dry conditions for the whole program of Little Aths this week.  The strong tail wind on the front straight helped towards achieving a few personal bests for some of our athletes, with another swag of Bolters kids receiving their bronze PB medals.  Next Saturday's competition will be Program B.  Don't forget that if you have placed your name on the duty roster for this program you are required to check in with Shelly at the 'Duty table' which is normally situated in front of the pavillion, prior to the program commencing.  Our best wishes go to the Boronia Bolters athletes flying to Hobart this coming week to compete in the National All-Schools competition from 4th - 7th December.  Go Courtney, Mark and Jasmine !

Lap-A-Thon - Sunday 29th November

Don't forget that the Centre is holding the annual 'Lap-A-Thon' day this coming Sunday, 29th November commencing at 9:00am (Heat 1 - Under 9-12); Heat 2 - Under 6/7/8 as well as siblings, parents and strollers at approx 10.30; then Heat 3 - Under 13-15, Youth Athletes and adults at approx 12:00 midday.  All funds raised will be going towards the cost of the new Photo Finish Camera.  Prizes are awarded for the entrant and club who raises the most funds - let's try and keep the trophy we won last year for the club that raised the most money ... go Bolters!

21st Nov '09

Week 8

Perfect conditions for little aths this week.  With the searing heat absent from the day there were PB's galore.  Congratulations to the many Bolters athletes who received their 'Bronze' medal today for achieving 10 personal bests for the season so far.  These athletes have been added to the 'Results/PB's' page.  There are also many more athletes close to their 10 PB's - keep working hard over the next few weeks and you should receive your bronze medal also.  Remember next Sunday, 29th November, is 'Lap-A-Thon' Day - this event will help raise funds to be put toward the Centre's new fantastic photo finish camera.  Last year's Lap-A-Thon proved to be extremely fun with our club being successful in winning the trophy for raising the most funds.  Let's all try and get behind this great fundraising event and keep the trophy from leaving our club!  Further details regarding the Lap-A-Thon are available on the Knox website (www.klac23.org.au).

Twilight Competition - Week 7

A lovely balmy evening saw our competition held on Friday night due to the Region Relays being contested this Sunday.  Congratulations to Hetty Lawson (U7 girls) who once again broke not one but TWO club records on the night - U7 400m and U7 Long Jump.  Hetty is certainly having a fantastic season of Little Aths.  The great conditions during the twilight meet saw a few more athletes achieve their bronze PB medal (which is 10 PB's so far this season).  Good luck to all the Bolters athletes who will be competing at the Region Relays at Doncaster this Sunday.

All Schools Success

A small number of Bolters athletes made their way to Olympic Park last weekend to compete in the All Schools Track & Field Championships.  Congratulations to Mark Richards (3rd in the Steeplechase) and Jasmine Irshad (7th in the Walk).  Well done Mark & Jasmine - a fantastic result.  A special mention and congratulations must also go to Courtney Yates (Bolters U15) who also competed in the Girls High Jump at All Schools and won the event with a successful jump of 1m 63cm - the same height she jumped and won at the State Secondary Schools competition only 3 weeks ago.  We aren't sure about Mark and Jasmine's National path (please let us know), but Courtney is waiting on confirmation in regards to making the Vic team to compete at Nationals to be held in Hobart during early December.

Week 6

Six weeks into the Summer Track & Field season and we are really hotting up !  What a glorious day for Little Athletics, albeit fairly light on in the way of athlete attendance due to the All Schools being held at Olympic Park and the Crystal Creek Camp - aren't they lucky with this weather.  Another Club record fell today in the Under 7 Boy's Shot Put - Cooper Weiland-Dunkinson threw a huge 6.58, smashing our old club record of 5.97.  Congratulations Cooper.  Cooper's achievement has been recorded under the "New Records" page (button to the left) which will be updated each time an athlete breaks a new club record during the current season.  Well done to the athletes who have broken a club record so far.  These records will then be transferred to the Overall Club Records page at the completion of the season.  Some athletes are also starting to achieve their PB medals, with a handful of athletes already presented with their 'Bronze' award (10 personal bests).  These will also be regularly updated and displayed on our website under the "Results/PB's" menu.

Some of you may have noticed that the 'Banner' of photos at the top of our website continually changes.  As well as other features on our website, the Banner will be changed on a monthly basis (usually around the start of the month) in order to give athletes a chance to possibly see a photo of themself starring on the front page of a website!.  Another monthly feature is the 'Birthday' page, again updated at the commencement of each month (click on the balloons on the right of the page).  And of course, we have our Bolters Athlete Profiles featuring a new athlete at the beginning of each week.  So keep a keen eye out for either your photo or name "in lights"

Week 5

We had our first taste of Summer during our morning of competition and who would have thought the weather would reach 32 degrees after hearing the storms and showers the previous night.  See below for some more photos of Bolters athletes in action from Saturday's competition.

Hopefully by now you will have received a 'Lap-A-Thon' Donation Form for the upcoming 'Lap-A-Thon' being run by the Centre.  This fun event will be held on Sunday 29th November to help raise funds to be put toward the Centre's new fantastic photo finish camera.  Last year's Lap-A-Thon proved to be extremely fun, with our club being successful in winning the trophy for raising the most funds.  Let's all try and get behind this great fundraising event and keep the trophy from leaving our club!  More information available on the Knox website (www.klac23.org.au).

Week 4 - Twilight

The first twilight for the season was held Friday night and to say that the weather was a little brisk is an understatement.  Surely the warmer weather is just around the corner.  The main photo this week is of U11 Bolters athlete, Bradley Bishop, who broke a 28 year old Club record in the High Jump event Friday night, with a remarkable jump of 1m 38cm.  And whilst we are delving out the accolades, congratulations also go to U7 boy, Riley Baldwin who featured on the Knox website last week, who broke the U7 Boys High Jump Club record which stood for 25 years with a jump of 97cm; and to Courtney Yates who won gold in the U15 girls High Jump at the recent VSSSA State Championships, with a personal best jump of 1m 63cm.  It seems like the Bolters athletes are developing springs in their legs!

Week 3 - 'Bring A Friend Day'

Not even the cool weather and grey skies could dampen the spirit of 'Bring A Friend Day'.  Luckily the rain held off and a great day was had by all athletes and their friends.  Remember that the next competition will be a 'Twilight', to be held this coming Friday, 23rd October, with the program commencing at 6pm.  Please remember to give yourselves plenty of time beforehand to warm up (most important to prevent injury).

Some of you may have noticed that we are now 'featuring' 2 Bolters athletes each week on the website.  Don't forget to fill in an Athlete Profile form (available from the Bolters table during competition) and you may be one of the next athletes featured!  This week's Bolters 'stars' are Teal and Liam.  Click on their photo (to the right) and have a read about some of their favourite things.

The Summer Track & Field Season is here !

(More Competition photos of Bolters Athletes 3/10/09 HERE)

Even though the wind was a bit on the chilly side at times, we were occasionally bathed in sunshine for the official opening of the 2009/10 Summer Season.  It was great to see new Boronia Bolters athletes and their families enjoying their first taste of Little Athletics at Knox as well as the familiar faces of returning athletes and their families.  Welcome to you all.  Our new Bolters club singlets looked great on the athletes during the official 'March Past and Opening Ceremony' which was held briefly during the program.

A reminder that families who have nominated for duty need to sign in at the front of the pavillion (near the Canteen area) prior to competition commencing.  Next week's competition program will be 'Program B' HERE, with an 8:00am start for U13's, U14's, U15's and Youth Athletes if you wish to compete in the long hurdles.

Each week a selection of photos will be uploaded to our website.  If you spot any photos of your child that you wish to obtain (at no cost), please don't hesitate to contact Andrea Dunn and a 'high resolution' copy of the photo can be emailed to you.  Andrea can be emailed at the following address:  par.dunn@optusnet.com.au.

Keep an eye on our website during the week as we will be posting some details on the vast array of Bolters apparel available for purchase.  A bulk order will be placed around mid November, so stay tuned.

See you back at the track next Saturday.

Try Out Day

We were faced with a wet and windy Try Out day yesterday, a week prior to the official start of the 2009/2010 Summer Track & Field season.  New and returning athletes had fun getting back into the swing of things with a modified program in place before the heavens opened up.  There was some great feedback and comments heard around the track about our new Bolters club singlet and they certainly did look fantastic.  Next Saturday, 3rd October, is the official start of the 2009/2010 Summer Track & Field season, commencing at 8:30am (warm ups at 8.20am).  Let's hope we can be met with finer weather.
